BitTorrent Reported To Launch A TV News Network
US Edition of Variety reported BitTorrent might be considering to launch a TV news network for its live streaming service in time for the election this fall. BitTorrentLive is a P2P powered live video service launched by BitTorrent in the month of May, currently looking to hire a news director.
The San Francisco, based company had a job listing published for the post of news director which says – “If you had a blank slate to start a live-streaming TV news network, what would you build, BitTorrent has recently launched a live video streaming platform. Now we need a team to create a tent-pole live news channel to run on it.” BitTorrentLive already hosts a number of niche channels, including Clubbing TV, FightBox, Newsmax TV, Heroes TV and TWiT.
It does not have plans to launch a newsroom that would compete with the likes of CNN and MSNBC anytime soon. The Variety mentions that the company wishes to have a small team which can easily swap roles. Also mentioned that it may not telecast 24/7 news, instead will focus on covering more breaking news events which include political campaigns, sporting events, tech, and cultural events.
