High-Tech Drones Seized By Pune Customs
Pune Customs yesterday seized seven high-tech drones which came in parts imported from Canada to be assembled in India worth Rs 1.2 crores. Reports suggest investigations will be carried out against Webonise Private Limited, an FDI firm in Bavdhan and another company HeightsNext in Narhe related to acquiring and selling the “illegally imported” drones to “very high-profile buyers” in cities including Delhi and Ahmedabad.K Shubhendra, deputy commissioner, Pune customs on Friday said “We have seized seven precision hawk, USA-make high-tech drones, approximately valued at Rs1.2 crore . They were imported from Canada illegally by Amit Takte, who works at MS Webonise Private Limited at Bavdhan,”
Shubhendra further added saying “Without a Department of Telecom license, drones cannot be brought into India,”
The Customs authorities said Takte violated provisions of the Customs Act,1962 as well as regulations under the Wireless, Planning and Telecommunications Wing. Further investigations revealed these high-tech drones were sold to various companies across India by Vikas Kumar of MS HeightsNext , Pune.
Speaking about the investigation Subhendra said- “The relation between the two companies [MS Webonise Private Limited and MS HeightsNext is being investigated. Each drone is capable of completing the surveillance of large areas within a short span of time. We are investigating what the buyers meant to use the high-tech drones for”
The Custom authorities are still investigating and no arrests have been made as of now.
