Industrial Robots Made By Bajaj Auto
Bajaj Auto is a leading manufacturer of motorcycles and three-wheelers in India. Lately, it has been silently working on manufacturing industrial robots too. It is the third largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world and is busy making hi-tech industrial robots at its Akurdi plant. These industrial robots are used at Bajaj Auto’s assembly lines of Chakan plant. After the initial success sources suggest Bajaj is scouting for vendors who can supply components to them.
Bajaj Auto has a world class factory for making their motorcycles built by MD, Rajiv Bajaj. After successfully producing motorcycles at very low prices, Bajaj is venturing into robotics industry for a while now. Currently, the unit at Chakan plant produces close to 300 robots. All industrial robots made at the Bajaj facility are indigenous.
Earlier Bajaj Auto joined hands with Universal Robots (UR), a startup from Denmark. Universal Robots (UR) has been influential in helping them meet the requirements for flexibility, economic viability, and low running costs.
The company has already joined hands with Universal Robots to begin the assembling of the “Co-bot” industrial robot in India. The Co-bots weigh around 5kg and are capable of welding, deburring, machine tending, bolt tightening, sealant application and many other tasks.
Bajaj Auto has patented applications by Co-bots. Bajaj Auto is also planning to use equal number of other industrial robots of up to 50kg for other heavy operations apart from the Co-bots.
