Lilium Jet – Worlds First All Electric VTOL Jet

The Lilium Jet has completed its first maiden flight above the skies of Bavaria. The Eagle prototype consists of 2 passenger seats and can execute a range of complex manoeuvres which include mid-air transition from hover more to wing-borne forward flight.

It is all electric powers with zero emissions making it good for the environment. Noise level is lower than from a motorbike. It will fly at speeds of around 300 Mph making you feel like a formula one driver. Enabling you to fly from London to Paris in about an hour. To top it all you need not own the plane you can simply pay per ride and call it with a push of a button. The company’s mission is to make air taxis available to everyone and as affordable as riding a car.

Otto Lilienthal was the visionary behind this idea back in 1894 when he was experimenting with the first gliders a future in which we could all fly wherever we want, whenever we want. His dream is being turned into reality by Lilium.

It is an invention of totally new aircraft concept where most quadcopters, tilt rotors and tilt wings are common, Lilium has come up with the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) concept which is not new.

While vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) itself are not new – after all, quadcopters, tilt rotors and tilt wings are well-known concepts – we did not want to accept the compromises inherent to these configurations.

We are aware of the fact that Quadcopters excel with their simplicity but are highly inefficient in cruise flight. Whereas Transition aircraft can fly three times faster and ten times further with an equally sized battery, but system complexity is usually much higher. In contrast to this Lilium Jet set sights on bringing together an aircraft concept with better performance in safety, noise, speed, range and payload than existing concepts while cutting complexity to one-third. In this pursuit, they challenged physical limitations, mechanical complexity and energy laws.
