MediaTek Helio X30 Chipset Announced
Smartphones are getting faster over the period, if you think octa-core processors with 6GB of RAM might be enough then you need to rethink. MediaTek a leading chip manufacturer has announced the arrival of it flagship deca-core (10 Core) SoC for smartphones in the form of MediaTek Helio X30 which can support up to 8 GB Ram . Earlier last year MediaTek introduced its first deca-core SoC in the form of Helio X20 and Helio X25.
The Tri-Cluster architecture present in MediaTek Helio X30 is similar to the previous SoCs Helio X20 and Helio X25. The deca-core SoC has a foundation of 2.8 GHz Cortex-A73 cores along with 2.2 GHz quad-core Cortex A53 and a dual-core 2GHz Cortex A35. The MediaTek Helio X30 is capable of supporting cameras up to 40 megapixel.
The MediaTek Helio X30 comes with quad-core PowerVR 7XT GPU and will support rich virtual reality content. The architecture of MediaTek’s Helio X30 is based on Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC’s 10nm FinFET architecture.
Earlier MediaTek had launched Helio X20 Development Board based on the company’s high-end Helio X20 mobile processor. The development board is the first of its kind to use technologies like Tri-Cluster, deca-core and ARM Cortex A72.
As the Helio X20 Development Board is compatible with Linaro’s 96Boards specification it can be used for building solutions for virtual reality , advanced driver assisted systems (ADAS), mobile point-of-sale, smart signage, vending machines and more. This will further broaden MediaTek’s Internet of Things (IoT) reach.
The Tri-Cluster technology present on the Helio X20 Development Board is used to delegate simple tasks to one cluster of cores. The rest of the clusters can be assigned to do more complex and power hungry tasks. This will give a smoother performance and extended battery life.
