Telecom Data War Triggered In India
It seems to be some sort of a telecom data war triggered in India with Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio Infocomm set to launch its services soon. This has resulted in existing telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular have to make data substantially cheaper. This will keep the competition away from the newest entrant in the data space.
To beat the heat from the arrival of Reliance Jio, the other market leaders are coming up with innovative plans to attract customers. Subscribers are being offered free voice on certain postpaid plans and talk time is being added for call drops.
A telecom data war of sorts is triggered, all market players are trying to protect their turf against the newest arrival Reliance Jio. The telecom data war seems to intensify in the coming days and hopefully, consumers will benefit.
Reliance Jio is all set to launch its commercial 4G services in six to eight weeks. This has set the stage for a perfect telecom data war among operators. It will also push tariffs for data services down further.
Some of the Analysts feel the telecom data war is not only going to benefit the consumers but the telecom companies as well. The cut down in the data rates will encourage users for more data usage and expansion of more users accessing the data services offered at cheaper rates.
Idea has already slashed 67% in 4G and 3G mobile Internet rates to compete with rival Bharti Airtel and ward off a threat from Reliance Jio. Expressing his company’s views to join other operators in cutting rates on data packs Vodafone India CEO Sunil Sood said, “We always believe in giving value to customers. We will shortly be coming out with our plans.”
He also hinted Vodafone will also similar to Idea undergo a 67% reduction in the data tariff rate. While different tariff plans will be worked out Vodafone will continue to offer competitive tariff and value to customers he further stated.
Airtel also is considering a 67% reduction on the similar to the other players like Idea and Vodafone.
Reliance Jio is all set to take the market by storm, with a 1.5 million customers in its beta tests. It will be offering data plans at very low prices and also free calling plans to lure the customers.
Reliance Jio is offering 90 days of free unlimited 4G mobile Internet and voice calling. This includes sim cards bundled with LYF smartphones, priced at Rs2,999. Plans are already rolled out to offer similar services with Samsung Phones and later may expand to iPhones.
