Toyota Launches Kirobo Mini Companion Robot


A palm-sized robot will go on sale in Japan next year confirmed the developers Toyota. The key feature of this robot is it can have conversations. The robot is called Kirobo Mini and is 10cm in height designed with a goal to provide companionship.kirobo_mini_technosearchThe developers have added features where it can tailor conversations to include comments about the journey based on the data from the owner’s vehicle. It possesĀ child-like attributes, however,it cannot be replaced for a child.

Prof Dr. Kerstin Dautenhahn, from the school of computer science at the University of Hertfordshire said – “It might make people feel good, but there is no human component here, robots cannot be substitutes for children.”kirobo_mini_technosearch01Kirobo Mini comes with the following features as confirmed by Toyota

  • It is able to engage in “casual conversation”, using gestures, facial expressions, and blinking
  • Is able to remember user preferences and previous events, such as likes, dislikes, and outings
  • Can use data from connected devices such as those in the home or car to generate comments

It will beĀ priced 39000 Yen approx 300 Pounds and will be available only in Japan. Kirobo was given the job to accompany Japanese astronaut Kochi Wakata as part of a study about isolation.
